About BreedCompare
What We Do
BreedCompare helps dog owners and prospective owners compare dog breeds side-by-side. We cover temperament, size, exercise needs, grooming requirements, health predispositions, and lifespan so you can find the right breed for your lifestyle. Whether you're a first-time owner researching family-friendly breeds or an experienced handler evaluating working dogs, our comparisons give you the data you need to make an informed decision.
Our Data Sources
Every breed profile on BreedCompare is built from authoritative sources. We draw on the American Kennel Club (AKC) breed standards and profiles, the United Kennel Club (UKC), and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) for breed classification, temperament descriptions, and physical standards. Breed imagery is sourced through the Dog.ceo API. Health and lifespan data is informed by veterinary research publications and breed-specific health studies.
Our Methodology
We aggregate data from multiple breed registries and standardize metrics to enable meaningful side-by-side comparisons. Each breed profile includes AKC group classification, size ranges, temperament traits, exercise requirements, grooming needs, and known health predispositions. Our comparison pages highlight differences across key dimensions, making it straightforward to evaluate how two or more breeds stack up against each other.
Editorial Standards
All data on BreedCompare is verified against official breed standards published by recognized kennel clubs. Health information is reviewed against peer-reviewed veterinary literature. We update breed profiles when breed standards change or new health research emerges. We do not accept payment for favorable breed ratings, and our comparisons are never influenced by commercial relationships.
